YTS: diversifying its core business

YTS set its core business aside for a while to take on a new challenge. Being creative and reactive always pays off!

Founded in 2010 by Alexandre De Clercq and Diego Zambrano Braun, YTS is the specialist for printing and embroidery on textiles in Belgium.

“We started by outsourcing some of the work. Then, in 2016, we invested in equipment and staff. All (100%) of our orders are now produced in Nivelles,” says Diego Zambrano Braun, co-manager of YTS, with enthusiasm.

Finding a single contact person who meets the deadlines is what the European institutions, companies and communication agencies wanted. So, to satisfy its customers, YTS has diversified its core business (screen printing and embroidery on textile) by offering different printing techniques: Digital Print, pad printing, UV printing, Flex & Vinyl, Laser engraving, transfer. “In the event and promotional business, our two sectors of activity, companies like ours that can be responsive with in their creativity are much appreciated! ”

Everything was going well for the two executives, the three employees in the workshop, the production manager and the sales representative who made YTS more and more competitive and dynamic, until the day when the orders took a nosedive…

Coping with the consequences of a crisis

“We work mainly for events and promotional activities. We felt the impact of COVID-19 long before the lockdown! Orders were being cancelled day by day. In the middle of the lockdown, we decided to lay off the team for economic reasons. “But there was no time for respite or spite, however! “We thought about it, brainstormed, and my partner Alexandre De Clercq came up with the idea of making fabric masks…”. All that was left to do was…

Dare to reinvent yourself

YTS had the machines, the raw material and the ideas! The scenario was quickly concocted. “After three weeks of trial and error, we were ready to hijack the machines and produce hundreds of thousands of masks. We then called back the team and hired temporary workers, because demand was so high! We did suffer loss of earnings due to the cancellation of the events, but the production of the masks kept us afloat! ”

More than a plaster on the accounts, this diversification of YTS’s activities has been the right response to the crisis and has enabled the company to remain confident in the future, “even if we are aware that we should never rest on our laurels! ”

ODB, a favoured partner

The events sector will not be back in full swing until 2021, and this will impact YTS’s business sector to the full. “This is why we are still thinking about reinventing ourselves, diversifying production and taking on new challenges. Adapting requires investments in ideas, production techniques and personnel — investments that bear a price tag.

“When it comes to making the right decisions at the right time and to reassure the banks, nothing beats a real-time accounting situation. ODB’s accountants are at our side, which is reassuring when you are looking for new development strategies! “Diego Zambrano Braun concludes.
