Genné or flexibility: Inevitable in times of crisis!

Flexibility is the driving force of entrepreneurial success.
This is the lesson that Dany Pierret, the boss of Genné, the reference in moving in Walloon Brabant, has learned from the COVID-19 crisis and the period after. He tells us all about it.

The Maison Genné is a family story that began in the 1930s.

At the time, Mr and Mrs Genné had developed a fuel transport company, particularly for coal. At the request of several of their customers, they accepted a few moves and created a new line of business that quickly started flourishing…

In 2017, Dany Pierret bought Genné from Bertil Durieux, preserving the know-how.

“For the record”, Dany Pierret tells us, “Bertil Durieux and I have the same accounting firm, ODB! I learned that Bertil was selling the business; I was a candidate buyer!” The story then unfolded through meetings between the two protagonists and ODB’s complete takeover of Genné’s financial and tax expertise in a genuine climate of trust.

All over the world!

The Maison Genné provides moving services for private individuals in Belgium, Europe and internationally (where Genné has many local partners), as well as maritime moving services, including the shipment of expats’ belongings to the other side of the world, and the repatriation of goods to Belgium, with a customer satisfaction rate that has always made its reputation. The B2C side of the business is reinforced by a furniture storage service and personalized services (particularly the removal of vehicles).

The B2B side is not left out: Genné also handles company moving services, the storage and logistics of furniture and office equipment and also – and this is probably less well known to the general public – the transport of pharmaceutical products, especially medicines, for the various sites of the Iris Sud Hospitals, “as well as the transport and placement of dialysis equipment for patients suffering from kidney failure! “Dany Pierret admits with pride.

Flexibility to find new markets

Because COVID-19 showed up uninvited, companies have had to find solutions to keep their heads above water! Moves, initially forbidden, were finally accepted at the end of the National Security Council meeting of 15 April, but under certain conditions, and we have been using masks and gloves and observing social distancing ever since. For international moving operations, however, we are always dependent on the situation in the countries we pass through and the destination country,” says the boss.

An unprecedented health crisis notwithstanding, the Maison Genné has shown great flexibility by offering transit solutions in furniture storage to private individuals. In B2B, Genné provided transport for research modules for COVID-19! And, by way of an aside, they even transported foodstuffs, croissants, for a large company! Two great examples of flexibility!

Developing new synergies

The Maison Genné has also taken advantage of this slightly calmer period to concentrate its efforts on finding new partners at home and abroad. During an international move, Genné uses channels to send the goods of individuals to their new home.

Experimenting with ICT

“Most of our quotes are based on a home visit. During the COVID-19 period, we had to find another solution! “And the solution came from Training and Communication Technologies: video conferencing. “We were able to experiment with this situation internationally. I have met clients virtually and have been able to make and conclude quotations at a distance, without having to travel. This solution has saved invaluable time,” says the Genné boss.

A future teeming with projects

Covid-19 has slowed down several of Genné’s projects, but it has not tested the boss’s confidence in the future! “We will continue to focus on our B2B partnerships, especially in the pharmaceutical sector. Our partnership with GSK has enabled us to develop skills in terms of rigour, standards, flexibility and pricing! We are also going to develop our B2B and B2C storage offer in maritime containers (an economical solution!), as well as our import expertise thanks to videoconferencing with our partners throughout Europe,” concludes Dany Pierret with enthusiasm.
